Therapy for Men with Anxiety
It’s pretty common for men to feel tension in their body, feel sick, or angry when what’s going on underneath these symptoms is anxiety, fear, and self-doubt. In a world where men are expected to have it all together and continually become a better person, the pressure can feel intense. It’s natural to feel extremely anxious in response.
You may think,
“Can I become the man they want me to be?”
“Will I become the man I want to be?”
“Will people give up on me?”
“I don’t think I should tell anyone how badly I’m doing because they could be disappointed with me.”
I have deep respect for the standards and goals my clients are aiming for. Yet sometimes the future self you are trying to create begins to have a chokehold on the current you. Anxious about how you’ll manage the next day, week, or month, you become disconnected from the lively and goofy guy everyone’s come to love. In therapy, I help men unravel the pressure and rediscover how they want to move forward from a position of strength and calm.
